A Treatise on Astral Projection

There are certain aspects of the astral dimension and the projection process that are very complicated. Much of it is misunderstood and it can all be very confusing at times. This series of articles attempts to shed a little light on the subject, and hopefully, explain what it's all about. The theories and conclusions in this Treatise are largely drawn from my own projection experience. It is the goal of this Treatise to develop greater understanding and new, simpler and more effective techniques for projection. The ideas, theories and techniques discussed here are constantly under development and are subject to modification and change as new discoveries and insights come to light.

What is the Astral Dimension?

The astral is the closest dimension to the physical. It overlays and permeates the world like a huge mind net, catching and holding all thought. Its contents are created by the collective consciousness of the world mind. It contains all the thoughts, memories, fantasies, and dreams of every living thing in the world. In it, the laws of sympathetic attraction, or like attracts like, causes this ocean of mind stuff to strata and settle into layers or pools. These pools of thought are more commonly called astral planes, astral worlds, astral sub planes or astral realms.

The astral dimension is composed of astral matter and is aptly described as mind stuff. It is extremely sensitive to thought and can be molded into any shape or form. These creations can be so perfect as to be indistinguishable from reality.

The best way to explain this, mind stuff is to draw a comparison between astral matter and unexposed, high-speed photographic film. When this film is exposed to light, focused by the camera lens, a perfect image of reality is instantly burnt into the film by the chemical reaction of the film to light. When astral matter is exposed to thought, focused by the lens of the mind, a perfect image of reality is instantly formed out of astral mind stuff by the reaction of astral matter to thought. The complexity and durability of any creation in the astral dimension depends largely on the strength of the mind doing the creating.

Dreams

This is how the subconscious mind creates dreams: By tuning into the astral dimension during sleep, it can create any scenario it wishes. This is the subconscious mind's way of solving problems and of communicating with the conscious mind. It creates a series of complex thought form scenarios and projects them into the mind stuff of the astral dimension, where they become solid. Some of the most frequent questions on astral projection are the fear of being lost or severing your silver cord. Some fear traveling too far will stretch the cord to (or worse, past) its limit. Some fear that the cord will tear itself against a rough surface. Some fear that another astral being will cut it off.

The silver cord has been described as being smooth, very long, very bright, like an elastic cable made of light, about an inch wide, sparkling like a tinsel on a Christmas tree, and attached to one of several possible locations on the physical body. During the dying process, as the spirit body leaves the physical body and moves farther away it, the silver cord becomes thinner as it is stretched to its limit and becomes severed. When this occurs, the spirit body is released from being attached to the physical body. At this point, it becomes impossible for the spirit body to ever return to the physical body. For this reason, we can define "irreversible death" as that point when the silver cord becomes stretched to its limit and severed. This is the so-called "point of no return."

This boundary point may also be accompanied by the appearance of a particular landmark representing a boundary such as a river, a wall, a fence, or a canyon. Once this barrier is crossed, the near-death experience becomes an irreversible death experience.

Many experiencers have felt the pull of the silver cord when it is stretched near its limit. They often describe the experience as being instantly retracted to their physical body - like stretching a rubber band to near its limit and then releasing one end of it.

About the Astral Body, Chakra Points And The Etheric Field

When a person is ill, the colors of the aura go dark and pull in close to the body. When death comes, the aura withdraws into the body, ready to leave in what mystics call the astral body. This astral form of the human body is made of prana and looks like it is made of light.

There are three main sheaths that encase the soul:

The physical body

The physical body houses the spirit. It is a wonderful piece of organic machinery but is not the real you. The body is like a set of clothes. We put them it on when we are born and cast it aside when we die.

The physical body is animated by the prana life force of the astral body. It is connected at seven main points, called by the Sanskrit as chakras--which translates literally as “'wheel” although most people envision them as lotus flowers of light. The seven major chakras, or energy centers, correspond to the endocrine glands of the body and run upward along the spinal chord.

Everything that exists is energy in motion. The only difference between soul and body, consciousness and matter is the rate of vibration. Only the Absolute - God in Primal State - does not vibrate and is at perfect peace. When God stirred, the universe was born.

The motion of energy at the time of what is known as Creation first manifested as cosmic light and cosmic sound. The vibration of this conscious energy became progressively more gross until it metamorphosed into the material world. THE SPIRIT BODY LIFE FORCE
Indian mysticism calls the life force that animates matter “prana.” (The Chinese call this same energy Chi.) It is the missing link between consciousness and matter. Prana is finer than atomic energy and permeates everything. It is the substance of the heavenly worlds and the life principle of the earthly world. Prana takes two forms: the cosmic vibratory energy that is omnipresent in the universe, structuring and sustaining all things; and the specific aura that sustains each human body or life form.

I've come across this very interesting clip that explains the phenomenon of sleep paralysis which links to out-of-body experiences and occasionally, alien abduction.

While it can be a scary experience to be caught in a state of helpless paralysis, learning about it, understanding it and discovering ways to control it can give you a unique insight into a totally different world - a world that very few get to see.

Healing Through Astral Projection

We leave our bodies every night to recharge ourselves. Those deprived of sleep too long can even die. Every night we restore energy, heal broken neural connections, and so on. I remember one night leaving my body and actually witnessing, in microscopic terms, the healing of neural paths in my brain that naturally break down. Whenever I'm feeling down or "drained", I just tell myself to hang in there because I know a good night's rest will "restore" myself and lift any deteriorated mood.

This is one type of healing. The other healing is life long and I would consider vastly more important; and that's healing our soul. Lives are crippled and growth delayed because people refuse to heal from the wrongs they felt were done to them by others. That wrong can be blamed on God, parents, employers, spouses, and self. What good is healing a broken bone or disease, if the soul remains broken? Let us focus on that before we focus on our physical shells. Long after we have left the physical plane of existence, our soul carries with it the scars incurred while here on earth.

It has recently been asked of me, "What is healing?" I feel that healing is the removal of obstacles that are blocking or slowing our spiritual growth. That obstacle is many things; fear, love lost, physical addictions, hate, and so on. The process of removing these from our life is healing. So how do you heal?

Every day I receive a constant flow of questions about Astral Projection. I'm glad it's catching on. It is after all an exciting journey.  I understand that newcomers to this new form of traveling will have more questions than answers. Even before I started studying astral projection or even knew what it was about, I had experienced this thing called the catatonic state. It's different from astral projection, normal dreaming and lucid dreaming. The catatonic state is where your consciousness has moved from your physical body to your etheric body, but not yet to your astral body. An example of this is when you're conscious and are aware of the things that are happening around you, but your physical body is asleep. Can be terrifying!

Now I know better. Here's an article I found that talks explains the catatonic state, or what clinical experts call Sleep Paralysis.

The Catatonic State

There is a state of awareness that most of us encounter at some time or another that is not astral projection, nor is it a dream.

The catatonic state of awareness is when our consciousness detaches and transfers itself from our physical body to our etheric body (but not yet in the astral body). However, the etheric body is still considerably attached to the physical, and has most of the "control".

Clinical psychologists call this Sleep Paralysis, but they are wrong. They define this as a REM sleep state and that the consciousness can not become aware of anything by perceiving it and that it can be aware of nothing except what it "hallucinates". When I read about Sleep Paralysis, I have to smile, because here are some of the symptoms:
- Vibrations and shaking
- The sensation of floating, as in "out of body"
- The sense that other beings are in the room or vicinity
- The ability to see through closed eyes.

I know it's been awhile since you've heard from me. But things have been crazy over here with traveling and such. That being said, I'm probably back to hitting a more regular schedule again.

Meanwhile, one of my favorite authors, Tim Ferris, blogged a really cool post about lucid dreaming.

From 1994-1995 I had the great pleasure of training with wrestling legend John Smith, 2-time gold medalist and 4-time world champion (domestic freestyle record of 80-0; international freestyle record of 100-5).

He was famous for his low leg attacks that made even Olympic finals look like textbook demonstrations.

The problem was, of course, that I was in New Hampshire at boarding school and had never met John Smith. I only trained with him 45-60 minutes per night while I was lucid dreaming. I went on to have my best career season, which culminated with a more than 20-0 record before the national championships…

I’ve since used lucid dreaming to:

• Accelerate skill acquisition (example: yabusame)
• Reactivate “forgotten” languages in less time
• Cultivate zen-like present-state awareness and decrease needless stress

Astral Project With The Eye Blink Procedure

The astral projection strategy called Eye Blink Procedure utilizes eye blinks and innovative orientation techniques designed to induce the out-of-body state and facilitate travel to either physical or non-physical destinations. The procedure, which is based on the research of Gene Chamberlain of the Parapsychology Research Foundation and tested in [their] labs, incorporates remote viewing as a practice exercise into a procedure designed to induce astral projection. Astral projection and remote viewing are similar in that they both provide information concerning spatially distant realities. They are different, however, in that astral projection, unlike remote viewing, incorporates disengagement of the astral body from the physical and usually includes a much wider range of experiences. Once you have developed your remote viewing abilities, astral projection is much easier to master.
