The Amazing Out Of Body Experience

The experience of our cognitive inner self or the soul separating from the physical body and floating at magnificent astral planes is known as out of body experience. This refers to our soul moving out of the earthly body and observing the world around and the physical body from the eyes of our innate self and experiencing something divine, special and unique in the real sense.

There are five stages to an out of body experience. They are withdrawal, cataleptic, separation, flexibility and return to the earthly body respectively after the end of the venture. These are the five stages comprising of moving out of the body, floating celestially and then returning to the physical body after completing this journey of a lifetime.

The first phase of out of body experience sees the human body showing the signs of rigidness and the physical body stops responding to any external impulses. It seems as if the body is asleep and will not show ant response to effects to stir it up. The sense organs during sleep stops responding and a similar situation happens in this stage.

The second cataleptic stage is when your body turns comatose. All your muscles turn rigid and a temporary paralysis sets in with your body not moving even a slightest inch now. But, though all sense organs have withdrawn, extra sensory perceptions open up in this phase and you feel sensations like tingling, shivering, later on intense vibrations, bright light and even sight through closed eye lids.

The toughest part of the out of the body experience is when the soul tries to separate from the body. The physical body generally tries to prevent the separation and any type of doubt or fear regarding the result of the astral traveling can prove destructive and is not something necessary for such an experience. Once we keep such anxiety while the soul is trying to separate from the body, the physical body will pull the soul back and the person will come back to the senses with a jerk. Thus the out of body experience will become impossible if the mind is filled with such thoughts. Hence we must be calm and relax while such practices are followed.

Privacy, Ethics and OBE

There is a widespread belief stemming from early this century that has not only remained unchanged but has been continually propagated ever since. This belief is that if a projector deliberately invades the privacy of another person for immoral purposes or unethical gain, or engages in any disreputable or sexual behavior during OBE, they will be banned or stopped from further projecting -- grounded by a higher authority. It is even believed by some that there is a kind of astral police force watching out for ethical, moral and astral rights transgressors.

According to my experience this belief is a total myth. There are many natural barriers associated with OBE, but there are no ethical nor moral limitations. No higher authority is interested in the activities of projectors. No astral police force will appear and punish bad or naughty projectors.

A Stranger's Near Death Experience

I’m a firm believer in strangers entering your life for a reason. Be it strangers that turn into life-long friends or just temporary acquaintances on this highway of life. For every person I’ve befriended an unexplained connection was established that lead to bigger and better things, sometimes it happened quickly other times it took years. It’s almost like a spiritual transformation or awakening of the mind, body and spirit that produces a marked change in my future. But I can almost always credit others for it.

Take for instance the friend I made just the other day working at the Turning Stone Casino. I’m in a room full of busy professionals sipping cocktails and talking shop before dinner hour begins. I know nobody so I grab an empty table to survey the crowd before I wedge myself into a conversation with strangers. From across the room I see a blond who looks just like Renée Zellweger but with a smile a mile wide across her face. She’s garrulous, thoughtful and full of positive energy, unlike the rest of the women at her table with dead-pan looks on their faces. This is who I gravitate towards. She’s been touched by something, something almost divine and her depth of character rises far above everyone else in the room.

Sure enough, after hours of comparing vibrant adventures skiing or hiking or traveling (she even shows me a long scar on her knee where a mountain got the best of her) she trusts me well enough to talk about an accident she had 20 years ago. While boating with friends she dove into shallow water and snapped her neck. Her friends didn’t notice at first. She lay unconscious, slowly drowning at the bottom of 4 feet of water. Then, this is the most amazing part, her soul or energy or consciousness rose to the surface and had what could be commonly called an “out-of-body” experience. She watched as her friends jumped into the water to save her, hurled her limp body onto the boat and started CPR.

The Spirit Of A Living Husband

When I was staying in South Africa I woke up in the night and saw my husband's spirit leaving his body. At first I thought that I was dreaming but after closing my eyes and opening them again I knew that it was real.

He was sleeping on his stomach and his spirit was still connected to his legs and feet. I was terrified, thinking that my husband had died. I dug into him with my elbow and he awoke asking me what on earth was wrong. I felt silly and awkward and couldn't tell him until three days later.

My vicar said that what I saw was very unusual. Next time it happens I should watch which way the spirit goes. My husband says that he sometimes sees my spirit standing at the bottom of his bed. Can you explain what happened?

Even before I started studying astral projection or even knew what it was about, I had experienced this thing called the catatonic state. It's different from astral projection, normal dreaming and lucid dreaming. The catatonic state is where your consciousness has moved from your physical body to your etheric body, but not yet to your astral body. An example of this is when you're conscious and are aware of the things that are happening around you, but your physical body is asleep. Can be terrifying!

Now I know better. Here's an article I found that talks explains the catatonic state, or what clinical experts call Sleep Paralysis.

The Catatonic State

There is a state of awareness that most of us encounter at some time or another that is not astral projection, nor is it a dream.

The catatonic state of awareness is when our consciousness detaches and transfers itself from our physical body to our etheric body (but not yet in the astral body). However, the etheric body is still considerably attached to the physical, and has most of the "control".

Clinical psychologists call this Sleep Paralysis, but they are wrong. They define this as a REM sleep state and that the consciousness can not become aware of anything by perceiving it and that it can be aware of nothing except what it "hallucinates". When I read about Sleep Paralysis, I have to smile, because here are some of the symptoms:
- Vibrations and shaking
- The sensation of floating, as in "out of body"
- The sense that other beings are in the room or vicinity
- The ability to see through closed eyes.

This morning during my daily breakfast of Astral Projection news I bumped into an interesting article that I am really keen to share with you! Scientists attest there is a rational explanation for out of bodies experiences, while spiritual leaders talk about energy and inner emotions. But at the end of the day, does the mechanism behind the phenomenon really matter?

Out of Body Experience: Life After Death or Scientifically Explained Reality

This phenomenon of out of the body experience is attested to by metaphysical groups who believe that certain exercises can create an out of body experience. Some hypnosis instructors also give exercises where they say they can "create" energy fields and that someone within this energy field can have a feeling of levitation or an out of body sensation. One person who lists herself as Sarah on the Out of Body Research Foundation website says, "I could fly over London, or be in a Maxfield Parish Painting. It was as real as I am sitting here right now."

In addition to the metaphysical groups that tie religious belief with the creation of out-of-the-body experiences, there are those who presume they can teach others how to do it.

Some researchers have theorized that the problems encountered in visual experiments are not problems with vision, but rather problems with the mind and its interpretation of those images. Obviously, we can learn a lot about our reality and ourselves if we examine our own mind and consciousness during OBEs.

Consciousness

How is out-of-body consciousness different from normal consciousness? My experiments have led me to believe that out-of-body consciousness is very focused and directed. This single-mindedness makes it easier to induce the experience, and usually stays with me during the experience. This focus also makes it easier to remember details of an experience. It can also be a hinderance, because it's tempting to divert your full attention to some small distraction during the experience, rather than doing something that you had planned. For instance, several times I induced an OBE with the hope to astrally visit a friend, but often I would become distracted and forget my goal.

I have experienced many frames of mind and states of consciousness during OBEs. Usually, my consciousness is completely normal in all respects. At times my consciousness is very strong, and I feel more awake and aware than in normal life. But sometimes my consciousness feels very weak. I've often used the analogy between consciousness and a light bulb that is on a dimmer switch. Chapter 10, OBE #52 gave a fairly good idea of how consciousness operates during an OBE. Out of Body Experiences Simulated Through Science

New virtual reality experiments show the brain can be tricked into believing it's outside the body, lending credence to the strange claims of some patients and shedding light on how the brain might generate its "self image."

“We have decades of intense research on visual perception, but not very much yet on body perception," said Henrik Ehrsson of University College London.

"But that may change, now [that] virtual reality offers a way to manipulate full-body perception more systematically and probe out-of-body experiences,” said Olaf Blanke, a Swiss Federal Institute of Technology neuroscientist.

The researchers worked on separate studies, which are detailed in the Aug. 24 online edition of the journal Science.
